You might have heard the slang “Cypher” from your friends or favorite rappers. Do you think to yourself about what it means or stands for? Is it a code or something?
Cypher means an informal gathering or “get together” of rappers for fun and some music-making session. The rappers form a circle and spontaneously freestyle rap verses, usually diss raps. It may sometimes become a rap battle but primarily involves jamming and performing.
You will hear it from others this way:
“Eminem was a regular in cyphers during his early years.”
Or
“Jasper had some major verses during the cypher.”
