It was a typical morning at Sweet and Associates until an employee heard strange noises coming from the dumpster behind the building. The night before, she had assumed the rustling sounds were from a raccoon. But as daylight broke, she and her coworkers made a shocking discovery.
Inside the dumpster, a small dog lay motionless—his head completely wrapped in duct tape. His front and back legs were tightly bound, and even his tail had been secured with the sticky adhesive. His fur was matted with food and debris.
“I have never seen anything like it,” said Kevin W., one of the staff members who found him. The employees were horrified but knew exactly what to do. They immediately called Animal Control, hoping it wasn’t too late to save him.

Thankfully, Leo had a microchip, and when NHS scanned it, they found his owner’s contact information. Erin, his owner, had reported him missing on April 11, believing he had slipped out when she was taking her son to school.
When Erin received the call, she was overwhelmed with emotion.
“He’s the sweetest dog! I don’t know why anyone would do this,” she said through tears. She immediately made plans to bring him home, give him a much-needed bath, and take him to his veterinarian for a full check-up.

Leo’s story could have had a much different ending.
Just 30 minutes after Animal Control arrived, a garbage truck came to empty the dumpster where he had been trapped. If not for the quick actions of Kevin W. and Judy O. at Sweet and Associates, Leo wouldn’t have survived.
